Assistance with problems with authorities

The Austrian Ombudsman Board assists all people who feel that they have not been treated fairly by an Austrian authority - regardless of their age, nationality or place of residence. The complaint can be about inactivity on the part of the authority, a legal opinion that does not comply with the law or gross discourtesy. Complaints against courts are only possible if they criticise the excessive length of proceedings.

The Austrian Ombudsman Board investigates every complaint and examines whether there is maladministration. However, a complaint does not always lead to an investigation. This is particularly the case if the Ombudsman Board is not or not yet competent. The employees of the Ombudsman Board are happy to provide general information in such cases. A complaint can be lodged at any time and is free of charge.
