The Austrian Ombudsman Board is committed to democracy and the rule of law at international level, supports projects in the field of human rights and uses bilateral contacts to exchange information and experience with ombudsman organisations worldwide.

The Austrian Ombudsman Board does this on the basis of international principles, the so-called Paris Principles of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UN). Human rights institutions that fulfil all criteria are granted A status. The Austrian Ombudsman Board has A status and thus the right to participate in meetings of the UN Human Rights Council. The Austrian Ombudsman Boardworks together with civil society and NGOs and participates in the UN's state reviews.
