STOISITS AT FUEN CONGRESS

Ombudswoman Terezija Stoisits participated in the FUEN congress which took place from June 1 to June 4, 2011, in Eisenstadt, Burgenland.

This year’s annual event of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), the largest umbrella association of autochthonous national minorities in Europe, took place for the second time in its history in Burgenland. The congress provides a basis for networking between the meanwhile 86 members. The event itself is centered on the Charta of autochthonous national minorities in Europe. This year’s focus was posed on the situation of the Roma in Europe which with its approximately twelve million members is one of Europe’s strongest minorities.

The congress was inaugurated by a round of speakers which dealt with Burgenland-Croats and Austria in a European context. The inaugural speech was held by Ombudswoman Terezija Stoisits. The inauguration was followed by a dense program with various round tables and excursions to memorials as well as delegation meetings and cultural events.
