IOI organised anti-corruption training

October 10, 2013

From 16 to 18 September 2013, the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) organised an Ombudsman Practice Training on anti-corruption and good governance. The training course was held by the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Laxenburg, Austria and was directed specifically towards investigative ombudsman staff of institutions with an anti-corruption mandate.

Renowned trainers from the IACA as well as lecturers from the OECD and the UN led the participants throughout the three-day seminar. The training course covered topics such as complaint assessment, transparency, whistleblower protection and accountability in the public administration on a regional, national and international level. It offered innovative tools for developing anti-corruption strategies and helped participants to identify weak areas within their own internal and external procedures and policies.

IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter as well as 32 international participants from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean attended the training course. Interactive training sessions contributed to an interregional exchange of experience between the participants.

The International Ombudsman Institute is an independent organisation that links more than 160 ombudsman institutions worldwide. The promotion of an exchange of information is one of the major goals of the IOI. Therefore, it regularly develops trainings for Ombudsmen and their staff. This was the fourth training course which was held in Austria since the IOI General Secretariat moved to Vienna in 2009.

The International Anti-Corruption Academy is an international organisation dedicated to increase knowledge in the field of anti-corruption.
