'BÜRGERANWALT' – ORF AND OMBUDSMAN BOARD CELEBRATE TEN YEARS JUBILEE

December 28, 2011

Already ten years have gone by since the Ombudsman Board has started its collaboration with the ORF which manifests itself in the 'Bürgeranwalt'-show. To mark the jubilee, on December 21st, a gala took place at the ORF-studios at the Küniglberg. The gala was joined by ORF-director Alexander Wrabetz, ORF chief editor Waltraud Langer, the ombudspersons Gertrude Brinek, Peter Kostelka and Terezija Stoisits as well as by the presenters Peter Resetarits and Klaus Unterberger, who honored the ORF success stories 'Volksanwalt' and 'Bürgeranwalt'.

The TV-Special shows a digest of the most touching moments out of ten years 'Volksanwalt' and 'Bürgeranwalt'

The 'Volksanwalt' started broadcasting on January 12th, 2002, and has been continuously rewarded by top ratings. Due to the huge success, the show had been expanded by 15 minutes in 2007. Since then, ORF affords other Austrian ombudsman institutions an opportunity to give the broad public an account of their activities within this additional airing time. To mark these changes, the TV-Show was named 'Bürgeranwalt'. The viewers’ interest has remained undiminished: in 2011, the 'Bürgeranwalt' had up to half a million viewers.

The jubilee show also portrayed all prior 14 ombudspersons, went behind the scenes of the 'Bürgeranwalt' and showed changes which the show has made possible during the last ten years.

The special jubilee edition will be broadcasted on ORF 2 on January 7th at 17.30.
