Reports to the National Council and the Federal Council

In its annual report to Parliament, the Austrian Ombudsman Board presents the focal points of its monitoring activities to the Members of Parliament. Deficiencies in the protection of fundamental and human rights are also highlighted. Furthermore, the report contains suggestions for improving the legal situation based on the Ombudsman Board's experience.

Since 2014, the report has been presented in two separate volumes. Volume 1 deals with the control of public administration and essentially comprises the investigative proceedings that concern the federal ministries. Volume 2 covers in particular the preventive monitoring tasks that have been carried out since 1 July 2012 by the Austrian Ombudsman Board and its expert commissions as part of its activities as the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) in implementation of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture (OPCAT) and as a monitoring body under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This second volume contains, at the end of each subchapter - highlighted in gray - the findings from the commissions' activities and the NPM's recommendations derived from them.
