The Ombudsman Board submits reports to the UN.

These include shadow reports on the progress made by the Republic of Austria in implementing a UN convention. These reports are submitted to the relevant UN committee, which monitors this process. Shadow reports are prepared in parallel with the reports to be prepared by the States Parties. Together with these, they are included in the overall assessment by the UN committee. A shadow report may refer to the entire government report. However, it may also deal with specific aspects of the government report or highlight areas not covered by it.

Shadow reports are thus part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism. The UPR is used to regularly review the human rights situation in Austria.
