Ombudswoman Gaby Schwarz receives Uzbek ombudswoman

In addition to presenting the various mandates of both organisations, the focus was placed on cooperation and exchange in the area of preventive activities to protect against violence and torture, but also in the area of activities as a national human rights institution.

Ombudswoman and IOI Secretary General Gaby Schwarz and the Uzbek Ombudsperson Feruza Eshmatova exchanged views on the possibilities of deepening cooperation within the International Ombudsman Institute.

During the three-day visit, employees of the Uzbek ombudsperson institution were given an insight into the work of the Austrian National Preventive Mechanism in social institutions, in connection with the activities of the police and in police detention centres and prisons. The programme also included talks with representatives of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Human Rights Advisory Council as well as a visit to Korneuburg prison.
