Ombudsperson Gaby Schwarz took part in the International Ombudsman Conference in Rome as a representative of the Austrian Ombudsman Board and the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The focus was on exchanging views on the rule of law, good administration and human rights with colleagues from all over the world.
"The exchange across national borders shows how important independent control, dialogue and people's trust in democratic structures are," stated Ombudsperson Gaby Schwarz in her speech. "Trust in the state does not come naturally. That is why ombudsman institutions all over the world - like the Austrian Ombudsman Board - are so important. We don't just investigate complaints about authorities. We are also responsible for strengthening trust in state institutions and actively protecting human rights. The individual people who turn to us are always at the centre of our work!"
