The family moved into the council flat in Vienna-Währing in the summer of 2024. The council building dates back to the 1950s. The wooden box-type windows are correspondingly old and in need of renovation. When viewing the flat, it was noticed that the window in the bedroom was damaged. This window was replaced. However, it turned out that the windows in the children's room, living room and kitchen were also desolate. Wiener Wohnen explained that they would have to wait if the flat was not taken over in this condition. So the family moved in with their baby.
There were no new windows, but there was mould. But according to Wiener Wohnen, the indoor climate is responsible for this. The remaining windows could only be replaced as part of a general refurbishment. It is not possible to say exactly when. "The fact that our daughter is exposed to mould because of the broken windows is very stressful for us. We ventilate several times a day. But the windows are not tight, the putty is breaking out in places, the wood is rotten, the handles don't work. The paint is chipping off. The wood of the exterior windows is exposed to the weather without protection. Mould is constantly forming due to the moisture. It's incomprehensible to me that Wiener Wohnen refuses to replace the windows," complains the tenant and mother of a seven-month-old daughter.
