Responsibilities and Activities
The Austrian Ombudsman Board acts as an ex-post control body for public administration in fulfilment of its constitutional mandate and, as a national human rights institution, contributes to the realisation of key national and international human rights guarantees in cooperation with its commissions and NGOs. The protection of children and adolescents is a key task and a central concern for the Austrian Ombudsman Board. To strengthen the team, we offer a varied range of responsibilities with opportunities for personal development. The investigative mandate involves independently processing assigned audit files, with a focus on issues affecting children and adolescents. Knowledge or professional experience beyond the scope of your degree in the field of family law or the remit of child and youth welfare services is required and should be detailed in your application.
Future duties will include participating in consultation days, drafting reports for the legislature, carrying out research, and collaborating with academia, teaching staff, advocacy groups, adult education institutions and NGO networks. The role also involves preparing draft statements of opinion for expert assessment procedures and participating in working groups.
Requirements
In addition to Austrian citizenship or unrestricted access to the Austrian labour market, the other general requirements in accordance with Section 3 of the VBG, and, for male applicants, completion of basic military or civilian service where fit for service, the following knowledge and skills are expected:
- A degree in law
- Relevant professional experience in the areas of law related to the Parent and Child Act (Kindschaftsrecht) and
child and youth welfare services - Empathy, interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team, with a focus on solutions and
results - Accuracy and flexibility
- Ability to express oneself clearly and communicate effectively
