Ombudsman Werner Amon meets EU Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly
On 12 October 2021, Werner Amon, IOI Secretary General and responsible Ombudsman for international affairs at the Austrian Ombudsman Board, welcomed European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly at the premises of the Austrian Ombudsman Board in Vienna.
In their bilateral exchange, both Ms O’Reilly and Mr Amon underlined the importance of Ombudsman networks such as the European Network of Ombudsman and the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The Austrian Ombudsman Board attaches great value to international exchange and cooperation. “As the seat of the IOI General Secretariat, we are aware of the very important role we play as multiplier to ensure on-going cooperation with the global Ombudsman community,” said Mr Amon.
The work of Ombudsman institutions around the world, as well as the contribution made by the IOI, are essential to guarantee transparent administration, good governance and the Rule of Law all over the world. “Ombudsman O’Reilly’ success in fighting maladministration with EU institutions is significant and I am very much looking forward to continue our good and close cooperation,” confirmed Ombudsman Amon.
Ombudsman O’Reilly took the opportunity of a Fundamental Rights Forum, hosted by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency in Vienna on 11 – 12 October, to pay the Austrian Ombudsman a visit. Ms O’Reilly holds the Office of the European Ombudsman since 1 October 2013 and is the first woman in this position.
