IOI Board held annual meeting in New York

October 10, 2013

The Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) held its annual meeting in New York, USA from 23 to 24 September 2013. The meeting was hosted by the North American Region of the IOI. Diane Welborn, IOI 2nd Vice-President and Ombudsman of Dayton-Montgomery County, Ohio played a substantial role in the organisation of the meeting.

In total, 16 of the current 21 Directors of the IOI Board were present at the New York meeting and each of the six IOI Regions (Africa, Asia, Australasia & Pacific, Caribbean & Latin America, Europe, North America) was represented by at least one of its regional Directors during the meeting. The Board of Directors warmly welcomed Ombudsman Dr. Günther Kräuter in his new function as IOI Secretary General.

The members of the IOI Board took the opportunity of this annual meeting to look back at the progress made and projects realized during the past membership year, such as the very recently held IOI anti-corruption training, and identified and prioritized projects and activities for the membership year 2013/2014.

The next meeting of the IOI Board of Directors will be held in Rosario, Argentina in October 2014. The meeting will be hosted by the office of Dr. Edgardo José Bistoletti, Ombudsman of the Province of Sante Fe, Argentina.

The International Ombudsman Institute is the only global organisation for the cooperation of ombudsman institutions that monitor and control public administration at the national, regional, and local level. It aims at promoting regional and international exchange of information between ombudsman institutions. Currently, the IOI has 160 members from more than 90 countries.
