STOISITS: MAYOR OF VILLACH MEETS OMBUDSWOMAN STOISITS

On December 16th, Ombudswoman Stoisits and the Mayor of Villach, Helmut Manzenreiter, met during a consultation day tour through Carinthia. During a short discussion, the Ombudswoman thanked the Mayor for the long-lasting good cooperation during the Board’s consultation days. The consultation day, which took place at the town hall, provided the possibility to discuss problems. The complainants turned to the Ombudswoman and her colleague with a wide array of topics and questions.
Mayor Manzenreiter also informed his visitor about current projects preserving Jewish memory in the region and about the first official visit of the Israeli ambassador to Villach. The “Verein Erinnern” is being greatly supported in this project by the Mayor. During the visit, the Mayor and the ambassador laid a wreath at the Memorial of Names which commemorates the victims of National Socialism. In the past, the memorial has been defiled several times by neo-Nazis. For the Mayor this shows that unfortunately there are still people who do not wish to be reminded of the injustices committed in the past.
