The Austrian Ombudsman Board meets motivated law students

On 31 October 2025, the "Recht Engagiert" careers fair took place for the sixth time at the Vienna Juridicum, where the Austrian Ombudsman Board was also represented with a stand. The two lawyers from the Austrian Ombudsman Board, Dietrun Schalk and Katharina Finze, were available throughout the day to answer the students' numerous questions and explain the Ombudsman Board's areas of responsibility and working methods.

The event attracted a great deal of interest and a large number of visitors. Some of the students came into contact with the Austrian Ombudsman Board for the first time, while others were already very well informed about the Ombudsman Board's fields of activity and enquired about specific career opportunities and the day-to-day work of the staff. The opportunity to complete an administrative internship met with particular interest. The ORF programme "Bürgeranwalt" (Citizens' Advocate), in which cases involving the Austrian Ombudsman Board are presented to the public, was also familiar to many participants at the careers fair and provided a good introduction to a more detailed discussion about the Austrian Ombudsman Board.

At the same time, participation also enabled the two representatives of the Ombudsman Board to have a good exchange of information and experience with other institutions working in similar areas to the Ombudsman Board.

The career fair is organised by the Forum of Critical Lawyers and presents the activities of various civil society and state institutions, NGOs and committed law firms in order to introduce students to career paths outside the traditional legal professions.
