Visit to the Hungarian Parliamentary Commissioner for Civil Rights

On September 23, the three members of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) visited the Hungarian Parliamentary Commissioner for Civil Rights, Prof. Dr. Máté Szabó. „The Austrian Ombudsman Board traditionally has close work relations with the Hungarian Ombudsman institution. The talks today have lead to an even better mutual understanding of the different areas of responsibility”, said Peter Kostelka, Ombudsman and Chairman of the AOB.

Within the framework of a lecture, Kostelka informed about the responsibilities and tasks of the AOB as well as about its international activities. The investigators of the Hungarian Ombudsman institution and representatives of academia and the diplomatic corps also took the opportunity to enter into a dialogue with Ombudswomen Gertrude Brinek and Terezija Stoisits about their specific fields of investigations.

The discussion that followed dealt with the responsibilities of the AOB in environmental matters, limits to investigations in justice, and with anti-discrimination isssues.

Finally, the members and the Ombudsman visited the Parliament, to which the Hungarian Parliamentary Commissioner reports annually.
