Austrian Ombudsman Peter Fichtenbauer welcomed Kyrgyz Ombudsman Kubat Otorbaev at the premises of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) in Vienna on 26 April 2016.

After introducing the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) and the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), Ombudsman Peter Fichtenbauer gave an in-depth explanation about the AOB’s competences and responsibilities as well as the general case handling and investigative procedures. The focus of Ombudsman Kubat Otorbaev's visit lay on the cooperation between the Parliament and the Austrian Ombudsman Board as well as the AOB’s rule of law and human rights mandate.

Since the Kyrgyz Republic is currently strengthening its democratic institutions in the course of a broader Justice reform, the Kyrgyz Delegation was keen to gain an insight of Austrian expertise and best practise regarding the handling of complaints in various areas. On this occasion, Ombudsman Fichtenbauer expressed the support of the AOB and the IOI for the upcoming Justice reform and emphasised the importance of bilateral cooperation for the future.
